Grand Canal (Australia X Loreto) was narrowly beaten in his handicap debut on the 11th of July. He had little time off when turning out again on July 22nd at the very short odds of 4/5. This time he ran out a comfortable winner by 7 lengths. Staying towards the rear of the field he started to make headway from the 2f mark and quickly led taking over from 1f out. Going clear he won easily. Being by Australia this is probably his minimum trip and he could even be more effective over middle distance.

Grand Canal is out of the multiple winning mare Loreto, herself being a daughter of Witch of Fife. Loreto has a Dark Angel filly which sells at the Orby at the end of September and a Muharrar foal on the ground. She is now in foal to Ten Sovereigns.
