Wajeez

4th November 2015

Wajeez (Lope De Vega X Chanter) we had lots of near misses with black type races in October with Fourth Way finishing third, California finishing second and Foundation finishing third after being denied a run in the Racing Post Trophy.

However all came good on November 4th when Wajeez, first time out, spread eagled a high quality field winning by seven lengths the B & M Installations Maiden Stakes.  His impressive win gave him an immediate quote of 20-1 for next years’s Derby so his trainer John Gosden has lots to look forward to with both him and Foundation.

We would like to congratulate Sheikh Hamdan and his racing manager Angus Gold in having such an exciting horse for 2016

July - September 2015

Foundation

26th September 2015

Foundation made it three wins from three starts when winning the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) at Newmarket.  Shaken up to lead at one furlong out it was eased near the finish for a comfortable win.

Among the favourites for 2016 Epsom Derby his next target is the Racing Post Trophy Group 1.
Layla's Hero

23rd September 2015

Having won over 7.5 furlongs at Beverley on August 30th Layla's Hero stepped up to one mile for the first time at Redcar.  Getting up close home it was recording his 12th career win and winnings of Stg. £115,000.  This was his third win since mid August and great credit must go to his jockey Paul Mulrennan and to his trainer David Nicholls.
Snakes and Ladders

17th September 2015

Snakes and Ladders (Rock of Gibraltar X Jalisco) made no mistake on Thursday at Listowel when winning the Michael Daffy Car Sales Handicap.  Having finished second the previous day he showed how tough he is when winning on ground that had turned heavy.  Ridden to lead one furlong out and going clear in the final  100 yards he was not to be caught in his second outing at the two day festival.  Congratulations to his owner JP McManus and to his trainer Niall Madden.
Fourth Way

15th September 2015

Fourth Way (Ifraaj X Spiritual Air) was beaten in a photo finish on her debut on the 30th August.  On this occasion she made no mistake winning comfortably the EBF Maiden Filly Stakes at Yarmouth.  Shaken up to lead one furlong out she readily asserted and won at ease at the prohibitive odds of 2/5.  We would like to congratulate Qatar Racing Limited and David Redvers who purchased two of our four home produced yearlings at the DBS Sale in 2014.  Restive has already won and now Fourth Way.  Both look to be exciting horses for the year ahead.

The other two home produced yearlings sold by us at DBS, both trained by Richard Hannon are Burning Fivers already a winner and Illuminate the leading European filly by Zoffany.
California

10th September 2015

California made it two wins from two starts when adding the Crown Hotel TBA Fillies Handicap to her first outing maiden win on July 21st. On this occasion she forged clear at the one furlong marker leaving the eleven srrong field well strung out and winning by over three lengths. The trainer states that a black type race is next on her programme and she seems well up to it.

We would like to congratulate and thank Denford Stud who purchased the filly from us at the October Newmarket Sale in 2013. Denford then followed by purchasing Illuminate from us who continues as the leading 2YO filly in Europe in 2015. With two great pedigrees they will make two outstanding brood mares.
Foundation

5th September 2015

Foundation having romped up in his maiden went back to Haydock for the Betfred Ascendant Stakes (Listed Race) over one mile.  He again had an easy three lengths win quickening up when asked in ready fashion.  He holds a number of Group 1 entries including the Royal Lodge which his owner suggests is his next target.

Bought by John and Jake Warren at the Goffs Orby sale in October 2014 he looks a serious prospect for his owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.
Assume

19th August 2015

Assume (Fastnet x Alsharq) was a convincing winner in the Mosscontrol Maiden at Killarney.  She tucked in just off the pace, was a little green, but professional when asked to go about her business.  Assume is a half sister to the speedy Sand Dreamer but being by Fastnet Rock she will obviously manage a step up in trip.  Congratulations to Sir Pete Vela, her New Zealand owner and to her trainer David Watchman.

We could easily see her winning races down under next year.
Layla's Hero

12th August 2015

Layla's Hero stepped up for the first time to seven and a half furlongs and had little difficulty to adding this prize to his previous six furlong successes.  Now that he has shown he gets a mile on firm ground  he will give owner and trainer  David Nicholls plenty to look forward to in the remaining summer months.
Restive

9th August 2015

Restive (Rip Van Winkle X I Hear You Knocking) led from start to finish, easily winning the Anglesey Lodge EBF Maiden at the Curragh.  She is the third winner out of the Danehill Dancer mare I Hear You Knocking, showing how well the Galileo Danehill cross works.  A black type race is obviously next on the agenda.  He was bought by David Redvers for Qatar Racing at the DBS sale in August 2014.  His half sister by Intense Focus will be sold at DBS this year on August 26th.

Congratulations to Ger Lyons and to Sheikh Fahad of Qatar Racing.
Foundation

7th August 2015

Foundation (Zoffany X Roystonea) lived up to his reputation on the gallops by winning the maiden stakes at Haydock being back down to a price of 11-10.  Coming last out of the stalls he made his effort three furlongs out and forged clear in the final furlong.  He holds entries for most of the Group 1 races before year end including the Champagne Stakes, the Royal Lodge and the Dewhurst.  He was purchased by John and Jake Warren at the Orby sale and was one of the two Zoffany's sold by Croom House - the other being the filly Illuminate.

Congratulations to Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and to the trainer John Gosden.
Burningfivers

5th August 2015

Burningfivers (Paco Boy X All Embracing) having shown up well in his previous three starts,  he made easy work of his first handicap in winning "The Bookiesoffers Nursery" at Chepstow.  In the rear until half way he chased the leaders entering the final furlong and soon went clear by two and a half lengths.  His dam All Embracing has a Zoffany colt being sold at the September Fairyhouse Sale and is in foal to Requinto.
California

21st July 2015

California (Azamour X Maskaya) wins on her racecourse debut at Wetherby. She took a while to realise what was required of her, and though green she looked a filly with a bright future in winning the Racing UK Maiden Stakes. Her dam Maskaya is by Machiavellian and is the dam of four winners including the Group 1 horse Drumbeat by Montjeu. Her Born to Sea yearling sells at the Orby Sales in Goffs in October.
Illuminate

10th July 2015

Illuminate made it three wins from three runs when capturing the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) at Newmarket.  She continues to fly the flag for her sire Zoffany adding this Group 2 race to the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Ascot.  She is the sixth foal out of Queen of Stars, all fillies where her first daughter Queen of Haruka has got the ball rolling in Japan with her first produce now a winner.

Illuminate has quotes of 16/1 for the 2016 Guineas.
Lilian Baylis

7th July 2015

Lilian Baylis (Shamerdal X Kiyra Wells) appreciated the step up in distance at Pontefract winning the Squash and Leisure Centre Handicap comfortably.  Held up in the rear she began to chase the leaders over one furlong out and stayed on strongly, going away at the finish.  Her dam Kiyra Wells, out of the outstanding mare Tadkiyra, has now produced two winners from her first two runners.  Her next foal, a Fastnet Rock filly is in training with Kevin Prendergast and the Fastnet Rock’s full sister is in the Orby Sale at Goffs.  Her four progeny are all fillies giving significant breeding potential.  Congratulations to Sheikh Mohammad Obaid Al Maktoum and to Luca Cumani owner and trainer of both Lillian and the Makfi colt Monotype.

April - July 2015

Quest for More

27th June 2015

Quest for More adds Stg. £86,000 to his already huge winnings in winning the Northumberland Plate in Newcastle.

Already raised 14 lbs in handicap this year by winning and being second, his trainer Roger Charlton suggests he must have improved by 20 lbs since last year.  Carrying top weight of 9 St. 4 lbs. he made light of his task making smooth headway to the front at over one furlong out and staying on to win by a comfortable one and a half lengths.  There are few horses in training that can stay with him over two miles on a fast surface.
El Fenix

19th June 2015

El Fenix (Lope de Vega X Woodmaven) wins the Idris Elba Stakes at Goodwood.  Beaten when running over a mile in his previous runs he made no mistake at this six furlong contest.   He was value for more than the winning margin of a length after idling in the closing stages and there should be more to come from this half brother to two useful winners.
Illuminate

19th June 2015

Illuminate lived up to the high reputation she earned when winning the  Betfred Filly Conditions Stakes at Salisbury in claiming the Group Three Albany Stakes at Ascot on this her second racecourse appearance.  About twenty lengths off the leader at half way she moved smoothly through the field and won comfortably.  She has a wonderful pedigree with her dam being by Green Desert and grand dam by Machiavellian.  Her trainer Richard Hannon states that she is next bound for the Group Two Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket in July.  The yearling half-sister by Dragon Pulse sells at the DBS sale in Doncaster in August.
Spiriting

18th June 2015

Spiriting (Invincible Spirit X Gold Bubbles) made no mistake in his first run in handicap company by winning the Foston Handicap at Leicester by three and a half lengths.  He had been placed in all his runs in sprints and here he led from start to finish in this one mile class 4 race.
Monotype

14th June 2015

Monotype having been placed third on his debut at Nottingham in May opened his account at this second attempt by winning the FSB Maiden Stakes at Doncaster for one mile and four furlongs.  Bred to be a middle distance horse, out of the Salse mare Mill Guineas he looks as if he will have many big days in store.  Congratulations to John and Jake Warren who purchased him as a yearling in Tattersall Book One in 2012.  Congratulations also to his owner Sheik Mohammad Obaid Al Maktoum and to his trainer Luca Cumani.  Mill Guineas has a Pivotal filly foal, a sister to the black type filly Mill Marin and is in foal to Charm Spirit.
Chivers

1st June 2015

Chivers (Duke of Marmalade X Thara) had a nine length easy win in the Apollo Bet Handicap at Carlisle.  Like his sire he is exceling at these middle distances and should win many more races in the year ahead.
Knocknagree

31st May 2015

Knocknagree (Galileo X Tyranny) is the half-sister to Zoffany.  Mr. Bolger picked this race in Listowel to give all our Kerry friends a day out and something to celebrate.  Knocknagree did not leave them down and going off at even money she won Fillies Maiden comfortable by three and a half lengths.  She will now follow her illustrious brothers, Zoffany and Wiltshire Boulevard, to race in black type company.  Her dam Tyranny has a Frankel colt foal is in foal to Dubawi.
Horseshoe Bay

29th May 2015

Horseshoe Bay had shaped up well in the one mile two furlong reappearance at the Craven Meeting and with an extra two furlongs won this Devil’s Dyke Maiden Stakes in style by seven lengths.  He pulled right away in the closing stages and looks to be a horse with a bright black type future over these middle distances.  Congratulations to the owner Bermuda Thoroughbred Racing and the trainer Sir Michael Stoute.  The dam Sweepstake a black type winner in the UK and placed in Group 3’s in the USA has a Galileo 2YO filly in training with Jim Bolger and an Oasis Dream yearling filly for the Newmarket Book 1 Sale.
El Tren

25th May 2015

El Tren recorded four wins and a second from five starts as a 3YO in 2014 and has now got his 4YO career up and running.  In winning this Union Investment Cup at Hanover he adds a further US €15,000 to his winnings.  He is by Danehill Dancer and out of the broad brush mare Dhamma who has a Rip Van Winkle filly for the Autumn Sales.
Quest for More

23rd May 2015

Quest for More must be one of the toughest horses in training.   Having already clocked up four wins and four places as a three and four year old he added this his fifth win to his career earnings.  On this occasion it was the Lidsey Silver Anniversary Stakes (Class II) at Goodwood where under top weight and a now rating of 108 he was not to be denied.  His owner H.R.H. Sultan Ahmad Shah continues to race this exciting prospect who has lost none of his form.  Congratulations to Roger Charlton and the team for keeping him at his peak.
Fort Bastion

21st May 2015

Fort Bastion having already won US $120,000 added a further $14,000 in winning this one mile handicap at Ayr.  Placed second on three occasions in listed and group company his owners, Sprint Thoroughbred Racing, have much to look forward to in 2015.  He is entered in the big one mile handicaps at Royal Ascot and if the ground stays firm he can add further to his winnings.
Omaticaya

5th May 2015

Omaticaya made her appearance as a 4YO in the Premio Gallao in Rome and added a further €20,000 to her already substantial winnings.  Having recorded six wins at two and at three, including three black type wins and two seconds in both Italy and France, it is good to see that she has kept her form on this 4YO re-appearance.  She is the only remaining daughter of the Gulch mare Pronghorn who died when giving birth to this outstanding filly.
Illuminate

3rd May 2015

Illuminate (Zoffany X Queen of Stars) got the yearlings we sold last autumn and her sire Zoffany off to a bright start.  Skipping a maiden she ran for the first time in the Betfred Fillies Conditions Stakes at Salisbury and won this five furlong event pulling right away from the others.  She next runs in the Albany at Royal Ascot and will relish the extra furlong.  Purchased by Peter and Ross Doyle in Doncaster last August she is owned by Denford Stud and trained by the master trainer Richard Hannon.
