Alexi Veronsky was purchased, but tucked away by his owner/trainer Michael O’Callaghan, appearing on a racecourse just three times at the end of 2019. Off the track for 233 days he made his return at Roscommon on June 15th at an opening price of 33/1. The price plunged as the evening progressed and he went off a short 3/1 favourite. He did not disappoint those who backed him down to favouritism, getting up close home to win by a short head. With the 1st and 2nd drawing right away from the remainder of the field his official rating is likely to change significantly. The Covid restrictions have reduced prize money significantly so winning €5,300 for the race might just be a small part of the total days winnings.

This was the last foal produced by the mare Varenka and so we would like to wish his connections lots of success in the year ahead.
