California (Azamour X Maskaya) had her first win at group level in landing the Group 3 Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood. She is a half sister to four winners including the Montjeu colt Drumbeat who himself finished second in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. Maskaya is a half sister to Danaskaya the dam of Belardo who won the Group 1 Dewhurst last year and the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes this year.
She tracked the leader to the furlong mark, then took over and ran on strongly to win by a comfortable length. Her trainer suggests that she will now go for the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes.
