Grand Canal excels when stepped up in trip to run over 1m6f and up to 2m.  At Ayr on June 5th he had his favourite over 1m7f and on a firm surface which he cherishes.  Shouldering top weight in the Western House Handicap he made light of the task with four lengths to spare over the runner up.

This is Grand Canal’s fifth victory and while the ground remains firm he can easily add some more.  Grand Canal is out of the mare Loreto, herself a sister to the dam of St Mark’s Basilica.  She has a Sottsass yearling colt which will be sold at the Goffs Orby or at Tattersalls Book 2.
